Cape Town produces some phenomenal musical talent. The city’s DJ’s are known to be passionate about their craft and border on fanaticism when it comes to the music they love. There are those who follow this path because they feel the need for acceptance. Some do it for the perceived elevated status it will bring. There are those whose arrogance leads them to believe they can to do it better. Then there are those truly gifted individuals for whom it is a calling and whose talent stands above the rest – Cassiem Latief.
One of the co-founders of the ongoing We House Sundays movement, Cassiem Latief has managed to consistently stay relevant over the past decade in the art form of DJ’ing. From humble beginnings in working in a local record store to holding down residencies over the city of Cape Town to playing festivals and events across S.A has earned him an appreciative and ever growing following over the years.
His unique style, selection and ability to fluently communicate a message through this medium is second to none. He has shared the stage with many industry heavyweights such as Kerri Chandler, Jimpster, Sebo K, Dennis Ferrer, Alton Miller to name but a few & has also featured live on Boiler Room TV performing Bk2Bk with DJ Leighton Moody showcasing their monthly “We House Sundays” event held in Cape Town, South Africa.
With three releases under his belt “Letting Go” – Nomadiq Music, “At Last” – Solun Concepts & “Be Patient” – Magique Music, the future looks promising from a production side as he continues to grow and develop as an artist.
